Actress Gabourey Sidibe will be on the March 2010 edition of Ebony Magazine. It should be on newsstands nationwide Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010. The breakout star of Lee Daniels’ latest Oscar contender talks about her new movie role opposite Zoe Kravitz and why no matter what anyone says she still celebrates being “different.” She’s also rockin the Monif C Roxie Batwing dress that we just featured.

Excerpts from the article:

Gabourey on what type of role she wants to play next:

“I would like to be funny in a film, or I’d like to be a romantic lead. They’re all dream roles. There’s nothing specifically that I want, I just want everything.”

Gabourey on living up to Hollywood standards of beauty:

“I don’t try to live up to the standards of Hollywood or any of that – I know that I’m different and I celebrate it. In a weird way, I kind of really, really love being the alien in the room. I dig it.”

Gabourey on how she came to be an actress:

“I thought I’d be a receptionist my whole life, and I wanted to be a psychologist. This just kind of fell in my lap. It’s very strange. It wasn’t what I planned to be in life, but certainly it’s happened in such a big way and I do plan to act more.”

I will be highlighting some great finds I find in curvy fashion for the dolls that go all out for Valentine’s Day. First Up is Monif C, she brought back the popular “Roxie” Beaded V-Neck Batwing Dress. You can choose from three colors: Red, Ivory or Black. This dress was first seen in this past fall collection and the red color as I was told was sold out in 2 weeks! The dress is made of jersey material blend and has a banded bottom allows you to adjust the length so it can be worn as a short dress or tunic top with leggings or jeans.

HER ACCEPTANCE SPEECH:
Wow. Thank you to every member of the Screen Actors Guild. I am so very honored. There are some people that I must thank, that could easily go overlooked. But without these people, this film could have not been what it is. I have to say thank you to Aunt Dot, who plays Mary Jones’ mother. I have to say thank you to the Each One Teach One Students, y’all were absolutely amazing.

I have to say thank you to Lisa Cortes, who was an amazing producer, and who put the work in every single day. And I have to thank the little girl that we called “Mongo.” Her name is Quishay, and I want to thank that baby and her mother for allowing us to use that special gift in this project. Lee Daniels, you never cease to amaze me. God got somethin’ on you brother that you can’t begin to imagine the gift.

God bless us all. Thank you very much.

Some may say, I’m late as all outdoors but trust me — I’ve never been the one to rush into glory.  To be honest, my schedule has been so hectic, the only reason I’ve had the time to sit and write this post tonight is because I’m online shopping for my winter weekend.  *sowwy*

This weeks feature of Acessoried is We Love Colors, I was sent a pair of the Purple Plus Size Nylon/Lycra Tights and I must say they are the best pair of tights I have worn EVER! I was able to get into them without a problem. Unlike tights I have bought from Target, Torrid, Ashely Stewart, etc.. Unfortunately I misplaced my camera so I had to borrow images from the We Love Colors site. They are well worth the $15 in my opinion and I will be purchasing a lot from them when I make my move outside of Los Angeles later this year.

Christina is not just a beautiful woman – she’s also a spokes-model. The mother of a child with autism, Mendez devotes much of the time she’s not on the runway or posing for the likes of Glamour and Latina to working with Autism Speaks, an advocacy organization.

Emme Aronson is perhaps the only plus size model to attain supermodel status – for now. The 5′11″ stunner, who has twice been named one of People’s Most Beautiful People, has parlayed her posing career into advocacy, authoring, and a hosting gig on the dating show More to Love.

In 2006, Velvet D’Amour made headlines when she appeared in the Spring/Summer 2007 show for Jean Paul Gaultier’s ready to wear collection. Mia Tyler, the half-sister of actress Liv Tyler, is one of the most popular plus size models of our time. Tyler has appeared on several reality shows, launched her own clothing line, published an autobiography, and is working on a pilot for a new show.

“I feel like a model. It justifies everyone in my life who told me I wouldn’t be anything until I lost weight. And it’s for other girls who feel like they can’t do this or that and feel like they’re not pretty and not worthy of having their photo taken.” she tells Laura Brown from Harper’s Bazaar.

On her favorite outfit, the red David Meister dress she wore to the L.A. premiere of Precious:
“It was so va va voom, my boobs looked so good in it. I had diamonds on too. Diamonds really do it.”

On her confidence:
“People always ask me, ‘You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?’ It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl. I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see.”

On her frustration with some media synopsis’ of Precious:
“‘Gabby Sidibe is an overweight black girl who is illiterate and pregnant by her father,’” she parrots. “Look, I am black. I’m also overweight, but that’s not the point of the story. The point is the abuse and her bravery. This stuff happens to skinny people, to white people, to so many different people that they’ve missed the point if they say it’s about a fat girl.”
